Session 8: Communicating Data — Advanced Visualization
Note
Date: Thursday, 11 June 2026, 16:00–19:00
Business question
How do health outcomes relate to income globally — and how do we show this clearly?
Learning goals
- Create publication-ready figures with
ggplot2andpatchwork - Visualise uncertainty and model results effectively
- Label outliers, annotate trends, and use colour intentionally
- Adapt output for different audiences and formats (HTML vs. Word)
Datasets
- worldbank-lifeexpectancy — 182 countries: life expectancy and GDP per capita, 2017
- world-bank-immunization — 172 countries, 1998–2017: immunisation rates and child survival
Together these datasets enable scatter plots, line plots over time, faceted comparisons, and annotated figures — the full range of ggplot2 capabilities.
Quarto skill introduced this session
Publication-ready figures: figure sizing, cross-references, captions, and exporting to Word with correct figure placement.
